From 2257 to Bill C-270: A Shift in Pornography Regulation

Canadian politician Arnold Viersen

Canadian politician Arnold Viersen [pictured], MP @ArnoldViersen tweets:

TOMORROW: My Bill C-270 comes up for debate in Parliament @ 1:30pm ET. This Bill requires pornography companies to verify age and consent of EVERY person in EVERY video. No more videos of CSAM, sex trafficking, non-consent & deep fakes.

Viersen's bill prohibits a person from making, distributing or advertising pornographic material for commercial purposes without having first ascertained that, at the time the material was made, each person whose image is depicted in the material was 18 years of age or older and gave their express consent to their image being depicted.

My question is when did all that 2257 paperwork porn producers and directors had to fill out stop being enforced?

§2257. Record-keeping requirements

(a) Whoever produces any book, magazine, periodical, film, videotape, or other matter which-

(1) contains one or more visual depictions made after November 1, 1990 of actual sexually explicit conduct; and

(2) is produced in whole or in part with materials which have been mailed or shipped in interstate or foreign commerce, or is shipped or transported or is intended for shipment or transportation in interstate or foreign commerce; shall create and maintain individually identifiable records pertaining to every performer portrayed in such a visual depiction.
